Google Image Search

Have you ever come across a picture and wondered where it came from, or who it contains? Despite all of our wonderful technology, there still isn’t a great way to track down this information. I’ve used TinEye before, which is a free online service that tries its best to track down pictures based on one that you upload. However, the results are rather mixed. Don’t worry though, Google has been working on a proper image search feature, and has finally rolled it out to the public.
If you head over to Google Image Search, you should now see a camera icon in your search bar. Clicking this will allow you to upload an image, or specify the URL for one. It will then scour the web for pictures that are exactly the same, or visually similar. I’ve tried it out with a number of pictures, and have been pretty impressed. On some occasions, it will identify the person in the photo, and enter their name into the search. A rather handy little tool, I’d say.
