Stash those packets of confetti and stock up on some fine bubbly, for it’s time to wave goodbye to 2011. For Kollywood superstars, it’s also time to take a breather after a year of extensive globe-trotting and relentless romancing with the camera lens.
Unlike Bollywood folk, who milk in every last penny by performing at ‘exclusive’ New Year bashes, it’s time for K-town stars to hitthe pause button and celebrate.
For sultry southern beauty, Shriya Saran, this is solely family and friends’ time. “Throughout the year, I am chasing shooting schedules and travelling. It’s only around New Year and Christmas that I finally take a breather and allot that time exclusively to catch up with my friends and family. So, like every year, I’ve left it to them to plan the celebrations,” she says.
For actor Madhavan, family always comes first when it's time to ring in the New Year, “It’s become a family tradition of sorts for us to pack our bags and fly off to Dubai. It’s our standard destination; my wife Sarita, our son Vedanth and I have been going to Dubai for New Year’s for a while now. That’s exactly what we intend to do this time as well.”
Touching upon why our K-town folks like to kick back and relax, while Bollywood actors go on a working spree during the holidays, actress Simran says, “It’s an integral part of our southern culture to prioritise family and friends above all. It would go against our culture to sacrifice family time and sneak in quick bucks during such celebrations.”
On her plans for the year-ender, she says, “This is will be my second son, Aaditveer’s, first New Year, so I’ve flown to Mumbai to be with my entire family. On New Year’s Eve, I’ll be hosting a party at home like every year. It will be an intimate gathering as my friends from Kollywood, and all over the country will join us.”
Well, for the party-crazy young legion of stars, Goa, seems to be the hot destination. Trisha says, “My friends and I have been planning to go to Goa for the last seven years now, but somehow or the other, there were always some last minute glitches and the plan didn’t materialise.
This year though, we have a foolproof plan are definitely heading to Goa.” Tagging along with Trisha are Soniya Agarwal and Reema Sen. “Goa is among the top ten New Year hubs in the world. So, I am really looking forward to soaking in some sun and sand with my friends,” she adds.
